Plans and Billing
Claira pricing is case-based and token-driven. You choose a plan for each active case, and that plan determines your monthly price, token capacity, daily refill rate, and feature access.
How tokens work
Every Claira plan includes a token reservoir - a balance that powers your scans. Different scan types consume different amounts.
Single-document scans never use tokens. Any time you scan one document at a time - auto, text scan, image scan, audio scan, video scan, multi-step review, or a message in Agent Mode (the lab) - the scan is free on every plan. Tokens are only consumed by Multi-Code (multi-field per document) and by bulk scans.
| Scan type | Token cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single document (auto, text scan, image scan, audio scan, video scan, multi-step) | 0 tokens | Free on every plan, including all media scans. Auto picks the right mode per document automatically. Use the lab or the Scan Document workflow. |
| Agent Mode (the lab) | 0 tokens | Messages in a chat thread are single-document interactions and do not consume tokens. |
| Bulk - auto | 1 to 20 tokens / successful document (per-doc resolved type) | Default. Claira picks the best mode per document at scan time and bills the resolved type's rate. Up to 20 tokens / doc is reserved at task creation; the difference is refunded as each document resolves to a cheaper mode. |
| Bulk - text scan | 1 token / successful document | Documents that fail or are skipped by the AI, and documents that never run (cancelled tasks), are not charged. |
| Bulk - image scan (image / PDF) | 5 tokens / successful document | Media scan. Failed / skipped / unprocessed documents are not charged. |
| Bulk - audio scan | 10 tokens / successful document | Media scan. Failed / skipped / unprocessed documents are not charged. |
| Bulk - video scan | 20 tokens / successful document | Media scan. Failed / skipped / unprocessed documents are not charged. |
| Multi-Code (extracted text) | 1 token per active field, up to 8 | Applies to single-document and bulk runs. Requires Pro or higher. |
| Multi-Code (image scan) | 5 tokens for the first field plus 1 per additional field, up to 8 fields (5 to 12 tokens per document) | Applies to single-document and bulk runs. Requires Pro or higher. |
| Multi-Code (audio scan) | 10 tokens for the first field plus 1 per additional field, up to 8 fields (10 to 17 tokens per document) | Applies to single-document and bulk runs. Requires Pro or higher. |
| Multi-Code (video scan) | 20 tokens for the first field plus 1 per additional field, up to 8 fields (20 to 27 tokens per document) | Applies to single-document and bulk runs. Requires Pro or higher. |
Bulk failures and incomplete tasks are not charged
Bulk scans pre-reserve tokens for every document in the task. When the task finishes, Claira issues an automatic refund for any document that did not successfully complete:
- Failed documents - the AI returned an error or the document could not be scanned.
- Skipped documents - the document type is unsupported or the content could not be parsed.
- Pending documents - the task was cancelled or abandoned before they ran.
Only documents that completed successfully count against your reservoir. The refund lands as a refund entry on your billing ledger as soon as the task reaches a terminal state.
Effective monthly token ceiling (sizing)
Plans do not define a hard “max tokens per month.” Token capacity is a reservoir cap (how much you can hold at once) plus, on Pro and above, a daily refill up to that cap. How many tokens you can use in a month depends on how you pace usage (whether you can stay at the cap and collect each day’s refill).
For comparing and sizing a case against a plan, the table below shows an effective monthly ceiling for each tier: the reservoir plus 30 days of full daily refills, assuming you drain the reservoir and collect every refill while staying at or under the cap. Months with 31 days would be slightly higher; shorter months or idle days would be lower. Enterprise has no product-enforced cap.
| Plan | Reservoir cap | Daily refill | Effective monthly ceiling (illustrative) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 1,000 (granted on subscription) | None | 1,000 total included; pay-as-you-go for more at $0.10/token — not a monthly pool that refills. |
| Pro | 10,000 | 500 | ~25,000 (10,000 + 30 × 500) |
| Business | 50,000 | 7,500 | ~275,000 (50,000 + 30 × 7,500) |
| Enterprise | Unlimited | Unlimited | No practical cap |
Your reservoir and daily refill
Your reservoir is the maximum number of tokens your plan can hold at any time. Think of it as the size of the tank. Your token balance is how much is in the tank right now.
On Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans, a daily refill automatically adds tokens to your balance each day, as long as your balance is below your reservoir cap. If your balance is already at or near the cap, only enough tokens are added to reach the cap - never more.
Example: if your reservoir cap is 10,000, your current balance is 9,200, and your daily refill is 500, the next refill adds 500 tokens (new balance: 9,700). If your balance were 9,800, only 200 tokens would be added to reach the 10,000 cap.
Starter plans do not include a daily refill. Your 1,000 tokens are granted when you subscribe, and you can purchase additional tokens at any time. There is no monthly reset on any plan - on Pro and above, the daily refill is what keeps your balance healthy.
The only events that fill your reservoir to its full cap are: initial activation, reactivation, and upgrading to a higher tier.
Plan tiers (CAD, per case/month)
Starter - $49/mo
- Effective included tokens: 1,000 total granted when you subscribe (no daily refill; not a refilling monthly pool). Additional tokens at $0.10 each anytime.

- Daily refill: unlimited
- Bulk task limit: unlimited
- Includes: priority compute and dedicated support
Overage
If your token balance reaches zero and overage is enabled in your case settings, scans continue and the excess is tracked as overage. Overage is billed at a flat rate of $0.10 per token, accumulated through the billing cycle and added as a line item on your next monthly invoice.
For reference: a text scan in overage costs $0.10.
If overage is disabled, Claira blocks any task that would exceed your current balance and prompts you to top up or upgrade.
Case settings also include an Allow auto upgrade toggle (enabled by default). When disabled, upgrade prompts can still appear so users understand what is blocked, but upgrade actions from those popups are disabled for everyone in the case. Manual plan changes from the Settings plan manager remain available.
Upgrades, downgrades, and billing lifecycle
- Activation: billing begins when a case is activated at the selected tier. Reservoir fills to cap.
- Upgrade: takes effect immediately. Your remaining days on the old plan are prorated as a credit on your next invoice. The new plan is charged in full, your billing cycle resets, and your reservoir refills to the new tier's cap.
- Downgrade: can be scheduled for period end. When it takes effect, your balance is clamped to the lower tier's cap.
- Deactivation: deactivating a case clears remaining tokens.
- Reactivation: refills reservoir to the selected tier's cap.
- Billing cycle renewal: your subscription continues and any accumulated overage is invoiced. Your token balance carries forward - it does not reset to cap. On Pro and above, the daily refill continues adding tokens as usual.
After an upgrade: what your team receives by email
When a case's plan is upgraded, every case recipient receives a short operational email confirming the change. The email reminds the reader what Claira is, names the case, names the new tier, and lists the new monthly token ceiling and bulk-scan limit. If the upgrade also unlocks a capability that wasn't available on the previous tier, the email mentions it by name; otherwise the email simply highlights the new capacity. Recipients who rarely log into Claira do not need to do anything — the next time someone on their team opens the case in Nuix Discover, the new capacity is already active.
Contractual monthly invoicing (Nuix Discover)
Monthly invoicing is only available after Claira configures a billing relationship for your Nuix Discover portal. At activation or when changing plans without a Stripe subscription, Claira verifies your signed-in Nuix organization against the contracted list for that portal. Credit-card billing stays available whenever your UIX JWT is valid, even when monthly invoicing is not contracted.
If monthly invoicing is not yet available for your Nuix organization, Claira shows a dialog where you can:
- Email support@claira.to with prefilled portal, environment, Claira pillar identifier (ORG_ID=... when configured), Nuix organization id/name, user, and case metadata.
- Optionally ask Claira to log the same details server-side (also notify support), then continue or switch to credit-card billing in the wizard.
Administrators onboard organizations and Nuix contract ids separately from day-to-day registration; details are summarized in internal runbooks (Docs/nuix-uix-authentication.md, Cloud SQL snippets).
