Privilege and types

Decide privilege, name the privilege types and cite the basis, each in its own field.

This is a Multi-Code template. Open Quickstart from the Multi-Code card and choose it under Multi-Code: Claira fills the card with the shared instruction and the three fields below. Each field is given the destination field in your case that has exactly the same name, and a field with no match is marked Choose a destination field.

What this template is for

The Identify privilege types template asks for the call, the types and the supporting excerpts in one answer, written to one field. Split across three fields, a privilege log can filter on Privilege, group by Privilege types and read the Privilege basis when a call is challenged.

The governing law and the known lawyers, firms, clients and matters sit in the shared instruction, so every field reads the same context.

Step-by-step in Claira

1. In the Multi-Code card, click Quickstart.
2. Open Multi-Code at the top of the library, expand Privilege and types to read its fields, then click Load into Multi-Code. If the card already has fields, Claira asks before replacing them.
3. Open the shared instruction and replace the two placeholders: the jurisdiction whose privilege rules apply, and the lawyers, law firms, clients and legal matters you know of.
4. Check each row's Destination field. A row marked Choose a destination field is skipped until you pick one, or create one with Create new field in the picker.
5. Click Scan Document on 10 to 25 documents, including some you know are privileged, and compare the answers with your own calls.
6. When the sample reads well, select the full set in Nuix Discover and click Start bulk scan.

Decide whether this document contains privileged information. Answer with exactly one value: YESPRIV or NOPRIV.

Privilege types

If the document is privileged, list every privilege type that applies as searchable tags, separated by commas (e.g., SOLICITORCLIENT, LITIGATION, COMMONINTEREST). If it is not privileged, leave this field empty.

Privilege basis

If the document is privileged, cite the key excerpts that support the determination. If it is not privileged, leave this field empty.

Recommended customizations

• Swap the example tags in Privilege types for the categories the governing law uses, and list them all so the tags stay consistent across the review.
• Name the lawyers and firms as they appear in the documents (email addresses and domains included). The model can only recognize counsel it has been told about.
• Treat the output as a first pass for human review, not a privilege determination.

Troubleshooting

• Every email with a lawyer on it comes back YESPRIV. Add to the Privilege prompt that a lawyer's presence alone is not enough: the communication must seek or give legal advice, or be made for litigation.
• Privilege basis quotes too much. Restate that it names the key excerpts only, a sentence or two each.
• Privilege types uses tags you did not list. List the allowed tags in the row's prompt and say that no others may be used.
