Prompt History

Other languages

Find, compare, and reuse every prompt used on your case — grouped into version chains with inline diffs and a marked final version.

Prompt History

Every prompt used or saved on your case is kept in Prompt History, shared with everyone working in the case. Open it with the View History button in Prompt Lab, in Multi-Code, or in the Bulk Scanning section, then restore any entry back into your prompt box.

Because teams refine prompts by re-running small edits, a case's history quickly fills with near-identical entries. Prompt History now opens in a Grouped view that stacks those variations into version chains, so you can see how a prompt evolved and which iteration the team settled on. A toggle at the top switches back to the classic chronological list at any time.

The Grouped view

The Grouped view is the default. Claira automatically detects prompts that are variations of the same instructions — including edits made by different teammates — and collapses them into a single card:

  • The card shows the group's representative prompt: the version marked as final, or the most recent version when none is marked.
  • A versions chip shows how many distinct versions the chain contains, along with the authors involved and when the prompt was last used.
  • View opens the representative version's details; Restore inserts it into your prompt box.
  • Prompts with no variations appear as ordinary single rows, exactly like the classic view.

Click a card (or its chevron) to expand the chain. Versions are listed oldest to newest, so you read the progression top to bottom:

  • Each version shows its number, author, and date. A version that was run several times without changes appears once, with a Used N× count instead of duplicate rows.
  • From version 2 onward, the prompt text is rendered as a comparison with the previous version: added words are highlighted in green, removed words are struck through in red, and unchanged text is dimmed. A +N −M words chip summarizes the size of each step.
  • Every version has its own View and Restore actions, plus the pin control and the final-version marker.

Grouping is automatic and based on text similarity — there is nothing to set up, and it applies to your existing history retroactively.

Marking a final version

When a chain has a winner — the wording your team agreed to run with — mark it as the final version:

  • In an expanded chain, click the badge icon on that version, or open the version's details and choose Mark as final version.
  • The final version gets a green Final badge, becomes the group's representative on the collapsed card, and is what the card's Restore button inserts.
  • The mark is shared: everyone on the case sees the same final version, and anyone on the case can set it. Marking a different version simply moves the mark; the prompt's details show who marked it and when.
  • To clear it, choose Remove final mark (you'll be asked to confirm, since this changes what teammates see).

The Chronological view

Prefer the flat list? Switch the toggle at the top of the modal to Chronological. This is the classic view: every saved entry in date order, with pinned prompts floating to the top. Final versions keep their green badge here too. Your choice of view is remembered per case and follows you across devices.

Pins and comments work in both views. Pinning a version (for yourself, or for the whole case) floats its group to the top of the Grouped view; comment counts add up across a group's versions. The search box and the user filter match against every version in a chain — a group stays intact even when only one of its versions matches.

Downloading a prompt as PDF

Click Download PDF on a group card, on a history row, or in a prompt's details to save it as a PDF — the document to attach when you send a prompt out for approval, or to file the wording that was actually run. Prompts with more than one version offer a choice:

  • This version only — a short document with the prompt's full text, who wrote it and when, its place in the chain ("Version 4 of 6"), the final mark if it has one, and the comments left on that version.
  • Full version history — every version of the prompt in order, oldest first. Each one shows what changed from the version before it (added words in bold green, removed words struck through in red, with a +N −M words count) followed by its complete text. Every comment in the chain follows at the end, grouped under the version it was left on.

A prompt with no variations downloads straight away, without the choice.

Both documents carry the Claira header, the case name, who exported it and when, and numbered pages.

Every download is recorded for your organization's compliance records — who exported the prompt, which version, and when. The record is written before the file is handed to you, so on the rare occasion it cannot be saved, the download is not created and Claira asks you to try again. The record holds no prompt or comment text, only counts — including how many characters, if any, had to be replaced (see below). The filename follows the pattern Claira-Prompt-<opening words>-v<N>-<YYYYMMDD>.pdf, or Claira-Prompt-<opening words>-history-<YYYYMMDD>.pdf for the full history.

If the prompt or its comments contain characters the PDF font cannot show — Chinese or Cyrillic text, or mathematical symbols such as ≥ — each one appears as ¤ in the document, the last line of the document says how many were replaced, and Claira tells you after the download. Accented letters, the euro sign, œ and « » print normally.

Restoring prompts

Restoring works the way it always has: in Prompt Lab and Bulk Scanning, Restore replaces or appends to your current prompt (you're asked when the box already has text). In Multi-Code, Claira asks whether to insert into the shared instruction, an existing field, or a new field row. See Custom Prompts for guidance on refining what you restore.
