A dated table with the columns Date, Event, Parties and Sources: one row per event, in date order, each row carrying the document it came from. Events that several documents describe are merged into a single row with all their citations. Under the table, gaps longer than the period you specify are listed so a missing month is visible rather than silent.

The template chooses the Timeline format, so the Insight opens as a timeline: the events along a line by year, filterable by party, each with the documents behind it, and a flag when those documents disagree on the date. Choose Report in the menu at the top right to see the table itself.

Download it as Excel to sort, filter and annotate the timeline: the table gets its own sheet, with real dates in the Date column. See Downloading an Insight.

This Insight reads a single dated sentence for each document: the output of the Chronology Summary prompt. If your case has not run it yet, Claira offers to run it before generating.

You do not have to remember this template exists. If you run the Chronology Summary prompt as a bulk task, the completed task offers this Insight directly:

Otherwise, open Insights, select Quickstart and pick Chronology. The tile says in one line what it produces, and the details pane names the prompt it reads, shows the prompt it will put in the box, and offers Run this prompt and Pick a field instead. Use this template fills the prompt and, when a completed bulk task in this case ran the matching prompt, selects that run as the source; the template then shows as one chip in the card, which you can remove. If no completed task has run the prompt, Claira warns you when you pick a bulk task as the source rather than blocking the Insight.

Merge these per-document chronology entries into a single case timeline, as a table in date order with the columns Date, Event, Parties and Sources. Group events that describe the same incident into one row and cite every source document on that row. Under the table, list any gap longer than 30 days.

1. Open Insights in your case, select Quickstart and pick Chronology.
2. If a completed task in this case already ran the prompt, select Use this template: the source fills in and you can go straight to the last step.
3. If nothing has, select Run this prompt. Claira opens Bulk Tasks with the Chronology Summary prompt filled in: choose your documents and a destination field, then start the scan and check the estimated token usage on the confirmation.
4. When the task finishes, it offers to generate the Insight. Nothing is queued or charged while it runs.
5. Edit the prefilled insight prompt if you want, then select Generate Insight.

The template points at the Chronology Summary prompt template, the same one you would pick yourself from the prompt library. The insight template does not carry its own copy, so improvements to the prompt reach every case.

Recommended customizationsCopy Anchor Link

• Change the gap threshold: 30 days suits a fast-moving commercial matter, a year suits an employment history.
• Name the parties you care about so peripheral events stay out of the timeline.
• Ask for the output grouped by party or by workstream when a single chronology gets unwieldy.

TroubleshootingCopy Anchor Link

• Dates look wrong. The timeline is only as good as the per-document entries. Spot-check a few values in the field before blaming the Insight.
• Undated documents are missing. Ask the prompt to place undated documents by their nearest referenced event and mark them, rather than dropping them.
• You want a narrative instead of a table. Under Revise with Agent, select Rewrite as text, then Generate revision. Every event and citation carries over. Rewrite as a table turns it back.
