First-Time Orientation

Voir en français

A walkthrough of what you see the first time you open Claira, how the interface is organized, and how to verify quality before scaling up.

First-Time Orientation

This page walks you through your very first session with Claira. By the end, you will know where everything is, how to run a single scan, and how to confirm quality before scaling to thousands of documents.

After case activation, the first interactive screen is Agent Mode. Start by sending a message or using the highlighted starter prompt:

Tell me everything that Claira can help me do in this case.

Opening Claira

To reach Claira, navigate to your case workspace and select the Claira pane from the workspace layout.

Case WorkspaceWorkspace LayoutClaira Pane

If you do not see a Claira pane, your workspace may not include it yet. Ask your case admin to add Claira to a workspace layout, or check the Checking Installation guide.

What you see when Claira opens

The Claira interface sits alongside your other Nuix Discover panes. A typical workspace looks like this:

Document Viewer
Claira
Coding Panel

Inside the Claira pane, use the top-right Modes menu (hamburger icon) to switch views. Only one mode is shown at a time:

Settings mode

This is where you connect Nuix fields to Claira and configure language, model, field mappings, and plan controls. At the top of Settings you can review case details (case and organization identifiers) and the active document (including whether extracted text is available for the current document).

Prompt area

This is where you write your instructions to the AI. You can save multiple prompts and switch between them depending on the review task.

Results area

After you run a scan, the AI's response appears here. This is also where you can review output quality before committing to a bulk run.

Bulk Scanning area

This section lets you select a set of documents and run the same prompt across all of them. You will use this once you are confident in your prompt.

Running your first single scan

  1. Make sure a document is open in your Document Viewer.
  2. In the Claira pane, write a short prompt in the Prompt area -- for example, "Summarize this document in one sentence."
  3. Click Scan Document.
  4. Read the AI's response in the Results area.

That is all it takes. You have just run your first scan.

Verifying quality before scaling up

Before you run a bulk scan across hundreds or thousands of documents, take a few minutes to test your prompt on a small sample. This step saves time and avoids filling a field with unhelpful results.

How to verify

  1. Pick 10 to 25 documents that represent the variety in your dataset -- include some that are clearly relevant, some that are clearly not, and a few edge cases.
  2. Run your prompt on each one using Scan Document.
  3. Review every response. Ask yourself:
    • Does the AI understand what I am asking?
    • Are the answers consistent across similar documents?
    • Are edge cases handled reasonably?
If the AI gives inconsistent results, try making your prompt more specific. Small wording changes can make a big difference in output quality.

When to adjust

  • Responses are too vague: Add detail to your prompt. Instead of "Is this relevant?", try "Is this document relevant to the breach of contract claim between Acme Corp and Beta Inc?"
  • Responses are inconsistent: Check whether the documents have enough extracted text for the AI to work with. Very short or garbled text can lead to unreliable results.
  • Responses are good: You are ready to move to a bulk scan.

Next steps

Once you are confident in your prompt and results, head to the Bulk Scan guide to process documents at scale.
