What is Claira?

Learn what Claira does, how it fits into your Nuix Discover workflow, and how to run your first AI-powered document scan in minutes.

What is Claira?

Claira is your AI-powered assistant for fast, flexible document review inside Nuix Discover. Instead of manually reading and tagging thousands of documents, you write a plain-language instruction -- called a prompt -- and Claira applies it to your documents, saving the AI's response directly into a Nuix field.

Whether you need to assess relevance, flag privilege, detect PII, or summarize content, Claira lets you go from a single test scan to a full bulk run across many documents at once, up to your plan's bulk-scan limit.

How it works

Every Claira interaction follows the same pattern:

  1. You write a prompt -- a natural-language instruction telling the AI what to look for or do.
  2. The AI reads the document's extracted text and generates a response.
  3. The response is saved into a Nuix Discover field you choose.

A single document plus a single prompt equals one scan. Running the same prompt across many documents at once is a bulk scan.

Run your first scan

Here is the fastest path from opening Claira to seeing your first AI result.

1. Open Claira in your workspace

Navigate to your case and select the Claira pane. If you are using a multi-pane workspace, confirm Claira is visible in the side menu.

2. Connect your fields

Before Claira can save results, it needs to know where to write them. In the Claira settings panel, connect the Nuix fields you want to use.

We recommend connecting at least three fields:

AI ResponseMemo (one-to-many)Stores the AI's answer
Prompt TextMemo (one-to-many)Records which prompt was used
Bulk Scan Task IDMemo (one-to-many)Tracks bulk scan jobs
Connected fields are visible to all users in the case. You only need to set them up once, and everyone benefits.

3. Write your prompt

In the Prompt section, type your instruction and click Save Prompt.

Example: Summarization

Summarize this document in one sentence.

Example: Privilege detection

Does this document contain or reference legal advice? Answer Yes or No, then explain briefly.

4. Run a single scan

Click Scan Document to run your prompt on the currently open document. The AI response appears in the results panel below.

5. Refine your prompt

Review the AI's response. If it is not quite right, adjust your wording and scan again. Test on several different documents -- a mix of straightforward and tricky ones -- until you are consistently getting useful answers.

Testing on 10 to 25 documents before scaling up is the single best way to avoid surprises in a bulk run.

6. Run a bulk scan

Once you are happy with your prompt, go to the Bulk Scanning section. Select the documents you want to process (up to your plan's bulk-scan limit), choose the same field, and click Scan List. Results populate directly into the connected field.

Scans require extracted text. If a document has no extracted text, Claira cannot process it and will return an error for that document.
