How to permanently delete the substantive contents of a case from Claira after you've cancelled your plan.

Deleting a case's data

Once you've cancelled your plan for a case, you can permanently delete that case's substantive contents from Claira's database. The deletion is scheduled with a 7-day grace period — you can cancel it any time before it runs.

Before you start

The action only becomes available after the plan for the case has been cancelled. If your plan is still active, the button in the Danger Zone is visible but disabled. See Plans and Billing for how to cancel a plan.

If you're on a monthly-invoice contract, your case is treated as cancelled once the contract has lapsed and our team has marked it cancelled on our end. The Danger Zone reflects that state the same way it does for credit-card cases — no separate workflow.

How to schedule deletion

  1. Open Claira inside the case you want to delete data for.
  2. Switch to the Settings mode.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the settings panel and find the Danger zone section.
  4. Click Delete all case data.
  5. Read the explanation, then type the case name in the confirmation field exactly as it appears in Claira.
  6. Click Schedule deletion.

You'll see a confirmation that the deletion is scheduled, along with the date it will run (7 days from when you confirmed).

What gets deleted

When the scheduled deletion runs, Claira permanently removes everything about the case's review work:

  • All bulk-scan history (the bulk tasks and the per-document results)
  • All single-scan history
  • All saved prompts and prompt comments for the case
  • All Agent-mode conversations (threads and messages)
  • All Insights and their revision history
  • The case's Case Context (extracted summary, source-document links, and version history)
  • Any per-case connected-field configuration

What we keep

Claira deliberately preserves a small set of records needed for financial reconciliation, dispute windows, and SOC 2 audit:

  • Billing history (per-case Stripe customer/subscription links and plan-tier history)
  • The token usage ledger for the case
  • Billing emails sent for the case
  • The audit trail of the deletion itself (who scheduled it, when it ran)

These records do not contain any of the case's review content.

The 7-day grace period

After you click Schedule deletion, Claira waits 7 days before running the deletion. During that window:

  • The Danger Zone shows the scheduled date and a Cancel scheduled deletion button.
  • If you re-subscribe to a plan for the case during the grace period, Claira automatically aborts the scheduled deletion and your data is kept. The audit log records the abort with the reason Plan reactivated during grace period.
  • You can cancel the scheduled deletion yourself at any time.

After the deletion runs

Once the deletion executes, the Danger Zone replaces the scheduled-deletion notice with This case's data was permanently deleted on {date}. Billing and audit records remain.

If the deletion fails for any reason, Claira retries automatically. If retries are exhausted, the Danger Zone surfaces a Deletion did not complete — contact support message; please reach out and reference the case before scheduling again.
